Before we get to SS

The Gospel Project: Unit 22, Session 4

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind. John 9

John's Gospel is different from the first three. He is concerned with showing that Jesus Christ is the "unique Son of God".

His thesis is found in chapter 20:31,

"And many other signs...these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and believing ye might have Life..." KJV

John documents 8 signs-miracles that point to Christ as the Messiah. And he documents 23, "I am" statements of Christ:

His book has Chapter 1 as a Prologue,

Chapters 2-11: "Book of Signs" - eight signs: 7 prior and 1 after His Ressurrection(21). Chapters 12-20: "Book of Glory" His Passion and final hours with their importance. Chapter 21: Epilogue

The Book of John starts out with the Powerful statement..."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..."

Creator

Life

Light

Verse 5, " And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not" KJV

Our SS Lesson is going to look at the sixth sign-miracle. A man in darkness. And 9:5 Jesus says, "...I am The Light of the world." John is using these to demonstrate Christ's Power and His Salvation! Christ is The Messiah.

Notice Jesus uses dirt and His saliva to heal the man's vision. Just as in the first few verses of chapter 1, Christ is Creator, Life and Light.

Jesus could have just spoken and the man's flesh would have obeyed. But He gave the man a command "Go and Wash..."

The man needed Faith and Obedeince for the healing.
