The Gospel Project: Unit 20, Session 1

Jesus is Baptized. Matthew 3

Point 3: The Son's herald baptized Jesus. Matthew 3: 13 - 17

This quote by Eric Mason has perfect timing, for our societal situation,

Jesus goes to John to be baptized.

John is taken aback and says Jesus should baptize him.

Why do you think Jesus was baptized?

The quarterly ask, "What are some ways one's identity as a believer in Jesus should impact thoughts, actions, and life choices?'

Jesus didn't need washing as a sinner.

He was baptized to be Obedient to The Father. It declared and confirmed His Identity.

Isn't it cool, we aren't baptized as sinners but after we have been converted to Christ.

And we are Baptized to be Obedient and to Declare and Confirm our identity IN CHRIST!

Why did He give us this statement, "Fulfill all righteousness", I wondered what is its meaning. My Bible commentary did not give any insight.

I look around and read Isaiah 59. In verses 16 and 17 speak of a Redeemer of Zion. There was no justice, no intercessor so He would bring Salvation by His own arm and His own Righteousness. HE PUT IT ON AS A BREASTPLATE. ♥️

Amazing we are to put on His BREASTPLATE of RIGHTEOUSNESS!

Where was Jesus heading directly after His Baptism?

...into the wilderness, into battle with Satan.

Wow! How important for us to do the same.

Ephesians 6: 10+

Prayer, "Father, You are well-pleased with Your Son, Jesus, and if we are in Him, You are well-pleased with us. Thank You for sending Him as The Sinless Savior, Who was unafraid to identify with Your sinful people by being baptized by Your Wrath in His Death so that we might receive the Grace of New Life through His resurrection. May Your Holy Spirit bring us to repentance of our sin so we...bear gospel fruit for Jesus sake, Amen."
